WAYNE — A local builder broke ground on Friday morning for a new shopping center on Hamburg Turnpike that has been 12 years in the making. Six of the retail complex’s future tenants were named at a brief ceremony, attended by about 50 people. They are Everbrook Academy, The Habit Burger Grill, Panera Bread, The Paper Store, Sport Clips and Ulta Beauty.
The seventh tenant was not announced by March Associates Construction Inc., the builder, but it is rumored that Trader Joe’s, a specialty grocer with nearly 500 stores nationwide, will move out of its smaller space farther west on Hamburg Turnpike to anchor the new strip mall. “I drive by it five times a day because I’m so excited about it, and when it opens, I’ll shop here,” Louis March Jr., president and founder of March Associates, said halfway through an 11-minute address to the crowd.
